UPDATE on Monday's military aircraft training

Posted: Updated:

WSLS has confirmed the military planes, spotted spotted by many people in Southwest Virginia on Monday, were part of a training exercise between the U.S. Air Force and Army.

A spokesperson from the 317th Airlift Group in Texas says it's a multi-day training called, 'Joint Operations Access Exercise.' The group works with various Air force Units to support the Army as they get ready for wartime situations.

We're told this was the largest training formation of C-130's to ever take flight since September 11th.

The group left from Dyess, Texas on June 19th and headed to Pope Air Field in North Carolina, for the training.
