Raleigh teens indicted in greenway murder

Posted: Updated:
RALEIGH, N.C. -

Four teenagers were indicted by a Wake County grand jury on Monday on charges of murder in the beating death last year of a homeless man found near Raleigh's Capital Area Greenway.

According to testimony, the teens intended to rob Regynald Jose Brown, 37, as he rode his bike on the Greenway in December. Two of the teens were on top of a tunnel while the other three hide inside the tunnel. A rock was dropped on Brown's head as he rode through. Brown hit one of the teens as they attacked him but was beaten to death with a rock and his own bike.

Brown's body was found in a trash canon Dec. 8 by friends searching along the trail.

Raleigh police arrested four 15-year-olds and a 13-year-old in the case.

Angel Sean Muniz, Raheem Hall and Tereise Massenburg were indicted on charges of first-degree murder Tuesday. Tyrell Hamilton was indicted on a charge of second-degree murder.

A 13-year-old arrested in the case agreed to testify so his case would be kept in the juvenile court system.

A teen that is not charged in the case testified Wednesday to have once been a part of a group called "Big Money Swag" or "BMS" along with the accused teens. The teen testified that the group robbed other homeless men in the past.

A man who lives near the scene of the crime witnessed two of the accused teens rolling a trash can down the street. The witness called the police after seeing the teens thinking it was suspicious.
