President Barack Obama heads to Africa today for an extended trip. The president's tour will start with visits to Senegal and the House of Slaves on the Island of Gore.

Today the U.S. Senate is expected to move forward with immigration reform. The upper chamber will vote to adopt the Border Security Surge Amendment. Then the Senate is expected to vote to end debate on the entire immigration bill.

VDOT will hold an informational meeting tonight from 5-7 p.m. at Lord Botetourt High School. The meeting will focus on the environmental study on Interstate 81 stretching from exit 118 in Christiansburg to 150 in Troutville.

Microsoft is unveiling the latest version of Windows today. Windows 8.1 is expected to correct problems from the company's previous operating system. It will be free to download later this year.

Paula Deen is sitting down with Matt Lauer this morning on the Today show. it's set for 7:30 a.m. This will be Deen's first interview since losing her television shows and several sponsors after using racial slurs.
