Star City Motor Madness rolling into town

Posted: Updated:

The 11th annual Star City Motor Madness car show rolls into Roanoke this weekend for two nights of engines, steel, and memories.

The event kicks off Friday night at 6pm with a classic and special interest car cruise down Williamson Road (near Berglund Automotive and Crossroads shopping center).  Organizers say Williamson Road has been Roanoke's cruising strip since the 1950's and the street still has that classic look and feel, which is why they drive along it.  Members of the public are invited to line up along the side of the road and watch as a huge parade of unique cars pass them.  Vendors will be set up near Berglund Automotive.

On Saturday from 10am - 4pm, car buffs will have the chance to get up close and personal with all kinds of vehicles during a car and truck show downtown.  Cars will be set up along Jefferson between Campbell and Elm, and along Franklin from Williamson to Jefferson.

Both events are free to the public.

Registration fees from participants will benefit the Virginia Museum of Transportation and other area non-profits.  The museum uses the funds to help operate and make improvements to its automotive gallery.
