Rep. Walter B. Jones threatens to impeach President Obama

WASHINGTON -

A bipartisan group of lawmakers is pushing a resolution that would prevent President Barack Obama from arming the Syrian rebels without congressional approval.
    
The lawmakers, which include North Carolina Rep. Walter B. Jones, told a Capitol Hill news conference on Thursday that while the deadly civil war has created a humanitarian crisis, they fear U.S. military intervention will only exacerbate the situation.

During the press conference, Rep. Jones spoke out in reference to legislation he brought forth last week which echoed the same sentiments.

"If Congress sends one troop, if one of our troops goes to Syria and is killed, I will introduce articles of impeachment against the President," said Jones.
    
They cited Libya where U.S. involvement helped oust Moammar Gadhafi but left a lawlessness reflected in the deadly assault in Benghazi last September that killed four Americans, including U.S. Ambassador Chris Stevens.
    
The other lawmakers were Republican Sen. Rand Paul of Kentucky and Reps. Chris Gibson of New York and Democratic Reps. Peter Welch of Vermont and Rick Nolan of Minnesota.
