Blacksburg-Montgomery Co. officials claim they want to talk about OBMS property

Posted: Updated:

Officials with Blacksburg Town Council and the Montgomery County Board of Supervisors claim they want to talk about the old Blacksburg Middle School property, but a county spokesperson says no meetings have been scheduled.

Supervisor Chris Tuck declined an interview request on the matter, saying he wanted any meeting on the OBMS property to be public.

Blacksburg mayor Ron Rordam said he preferred staff members from both localities to meet first, in private, so they could bring possible solutions to both boards.

A public hearing is set for July 2nd at 7:30 pm at the town's municipal building.

A member of the proposed development group, Jim Cowan, said in an email he wants both sides to meet and come to some sort of compromise before the group presents any formal plans to the Blacksburg Planning Commission.

The town controls the zoning of the 20 acre property.

The county, which owns the property, hopes development will pump five million dollars into its bank account.

County leaders have promised to use any money made from developing the OBMS site on schools.
