Reckless driving accident on 460

VDOT contractor, 5 others hurt in accident on Rt. 460

Posted: Updated:

A Virginia Department of Transportation contractor and five others were hurt after an accident on Route 460.

State Police Trooper Mike Heath says Andy Yancer, 21, of Lynchburg was traveling westbound on Route 460 around noon Saturday in a 97 Volkswagen Jetta when he hit a VDOT contractor.

Trooper Heath says the VDOT contracted tractor operator, Mark Halloway of Yorktown, was in the process of pulling onto the shoulder of Route 460 to mow the grass.

Yancer along four others including two juveniles, were transported to Lynchburg  General Hospital. One has since been flown to UVA.

Halloway was also taken to Lynchburg General but was released later in Saturday afternoon.

Trooper Heath says speed was a factor in the crash. Yancer has been charged with reckless driving.
