DOWNTOWN ROANOKE, VA -
Over fifty people rallied in Roanoke Sunday in reaction to what they consider a legislative victory regarding immigration reform.
Organizing for Action, a nonprofit social welfare organization held the Rally for Comprehensive Immigration Reform in Elmwood Park.
Member Eddie Seay says the rally is a celebration but also a platform to send a strong message to Congressman Goodlatte and Congressman Hurt.
Organization Leader Eli Salgado says they hope to shed light on common misconceptions that some natural born Americans have on immigrations and the people who are working tirelessly to come to America.
"I want to give Americans a different perspective on immigration because there are a lot of lies out there," Salgado said. "For example, some people say that all immigrants don't pay taxes and that is not true at all...we don't get any special treatment for our status."
Founded after President Obama's re-election, the group seeks to mobilize supporters in favor of Obama's legislative priorities
