The murder trial for George Zimmerman will resume later this morning. The lead investigator in the case is expected to testify sometime this week.

Impacting some of your wallets today, the interest rate on federally subsidized college Stafford Loans will double to 6.8%. Congress did not reach a deal to keep the rate lower.

An animal protection separation becomes official today when the Roanoke pound and the Roanoke Valley SPCA will officially split. Executive Director David Flagler will take over the pound's operation.

The newly built Glenvar Library will open for the first time this morning. The 15,000 square foot facility will be dedicated at 10:00 a.m. and open to the public after.

Roanoke City Council will meet for the first time of the new budget year later this morning. Members are expected to discuss adding a fee to pay for storm water projects and start a new discussion about council salary.

New laws are now officially in effect across the Commonwealth. Texting while driving will now be a primary offense. Virginia's sales tax is now 5.3%, up from 5%. Drivers will also notice a higher tax on their vehicles.

Bedford's reversion from a city to a town became official while you were sleeping.

The ACC now has 15 member schools in most sports. Pittsburgh and Syracuse officially joined at midnight with Notre Dame joining all sports except for football and hockey.
