Chapel Hill scrambles after Sunday flooding

Posted: Updated:
CHAPEL HILL, N.C. -

The town of Chapel Hill is continuing to scramble Monday after stunning floods hit the area Sunday.

Chapel Hill officials said emergency crews are doing all they can to make the town safe, and will continue to be on top of the situation the next two days.

Meanwhile, many town services are down. For example, the community center playground area is closed, and residents are encouraged to stay off of greenways until they can be inspected.

The American Red Cross said its shelter at the Smith Middle School would remain open Monday night.

The Red Cross said it provided shelter for about 40 residents affected by the flash floods.

The first floor of Town Hall was flooded, and so some departments have moved upstairs.

The town is asking citizens to report potentially dangerous issues by emailing info@townofchapelhill.org or calling (919) 968-2743.
