Greenbrier Becoming a Favorite Stop for Tour Players

Posted: Updated:

Like a beehive..that just got rustled with a stick..--on in this case...a four iron.. The Greenbrier is alive and buzzing today as classic week--now in year four...has arrived. Monday's schedule included a 1:30 Monday Pro-Am and a number of players working on their game both on the range and on the course. Justin Leonard talked about how the tournament is becoming a popular stop for the players because of all the area has to offer. Charlie Beljan finished tied for third a year ago and says this tournament helped springboard his PGA tour career a year ago.

Tiger may be missing from this year's field,  but the tournament field continues to strengthen. 13 Major championship winners are in the field and they account for 26 titles overall. Because the golf course is tough but fair, the players say it doesn't favor any one kind of player. Billy Horschel is ranked 35th in the world and he says almost anyone can win on this course. The 4th edition of the tournament is setting up to be another 'Classic."
