Virginia Zoo seeks name for baby giraffe

NORFOLK, Va. (AP) - The Virginia Zoo in Norfolk is looking for suggestions for names for its new baby giraffe.
    
Officials say 11-year-old mother Imara and father Billy welcomed their new baby on June 6. The calf weighed in at 150 pounds and measured 6 feet 4 inches tall at birth.
    
The public can suggest names by visiting http://www.virginiazoo.org . The top five names will be voted on by zoo staff.
    
Officials say the new baby can be viewed by visitors at the zoo's indoor giraffe exhibit.
    
Masai giraffe are the largest subspecies of giraffe and the tallest land mammal in the world. They are native to Kenya and Tanzania and are characterized by their jagged spots.
