Several cars are stuck on the side of the road near Green Hill Park.

Thursday, 7:40 a.m.

Salem spokesperson, Mike Stevens, says the Salem Fire and EMS department performed 12 boat rescues overnight. Those rescues happened from the two evacuated trailer mobile home parks in the city.

These took place at Ramey's Mobile Home Park and Salem Mobile Home Village.

The Riverland Trailer Park and the Riverwalk apartments have been evacuated on a voluntary basis.

Stevens says the Roanoke River crested at 3 a.m. in Salem at nine feet along Tidewater Drive, which is two feet above flood stage.

He says this caused not only the evacuation of the mobile home parks, but also closed the low water bridge on Mill Lane.

The bridge remains closed as the waters slowly recede.

A shelter at Andrew Lewis Middle School opened up around midnight. Red Cross is helping a handful of displaced people right now.

About 50 cots are set up, and LewisGale Medical Center brought in blankets and pillows.

11:59 p.m. Wednesday

Salem spokesperson, Mike Stevens, says two mobile homes are being evacuated.

The homes are Salem Village Mobile Home Park on Roanoke Blvd. and Ramey's Mobile Home Park on Lynchburg Turnpike.

Stevens says the city is opening up the gym at Andrew Lewis Middle School on College Avenue as a shelter.

The Swift Water Rescue team pulled a woman out from Masons Creek in Salem. The rescue happened near Kessler Mill Road. The road is still blocked off by police due to heavy flooding. The woman was not hurt and no details have been released as to how she got into the creek.
