What's News Today, Thursday, July 4, 2013

The Statue of Liberty and Liberty Island will reopen to the public today after being swamped and shutdown during Superstorm Sandy. Ellis Island requires more extensive repairs and will remain closed. Security screening for visitors will be held in Manhattan and not on Ellis Island.

State Police begin operation C.A.R.E. today which means you'll see more troopers on the roads. The annual Combined Accident Reduction Effort means stepped up patrols and enforcement to reduce traffic injuries and fatalities through Sunday.

The first round of competition begins at the Greenbrier Classic this morning at 7:00. The star-studded musical lineup in The Greenbrier Classic Concert Series also begins at the State Fair of West Virginia amphitheater tonight.

Weather permitting, balloons will take flight in about an hour in Lexington for the annual balloon rally and 4th of July celebration. The activities will take place on the VMI Parade ground.
