Operation Dry Water nets 22 arrests in NC

Posted: Updated:
RALEIGH, N.C. -

The North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission says more than 20 people were arrested during the past weekend's campaign to alert boaters to the dangers of operating a boat while impaired.

Maj. Chris Huebner is the commission's boat law administrator. He says the 22 arrests for operating while impaired were 10 less than those issued last year as part of Operation Dry Water.

Huebner says he thinks most boaters understand the risks of driving a boat while impaired. Penalties for operating while impaired include a maximum fine of $1,000 and possible jail time.

Operation Dry Water is an annual nationwide campaign that began in 2009.
