Fatal crash in Amherst County under investigation

AMHERST COUNTY, VA -

Virginia State Police are investigating a fatal two-vehicle crash that happened on Route 60 in Amherst County this morning.

The accident took place around 300 feet east of Route 778, around 11:20 a.m.  

A 1996 Jeep Cherokee was traveling along Route 60 when it lost control and crossed into the oncoming traffic. The Jeep struck an oncoming 2007 Mack CTP cement truck.

The driver of the Jeep, Mary A. McKinney, 43, of Amherst, Va., died at the scene. McKinney was wearing a seat belt.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation at this time.
