John Carlin - WSLS 10 NBC in Roanoke/Lynchburg Va

John Carlin

John Carlin co-anchors the 5, 5:30, 6 and 11 p.m. newscasts on WSLS-10.  He reports regularly from the field with a strong emphasis on WSLS-10's Virginia Crossroads series, which airs on Mondays and Thursdays at 6 p.m.

John returned to WSLS in July of 2013 after spending five years in public relations.  Prior to his departure he served as the lead WSLS-10 anchor from 1987 – 2008.  John was a part of the WSLS team that earned the Peabody Award for coverage of the April 16, 2007 mass shooting at Virginia Tech, as well at three national Edward R. Murrow Awards.  John is the recipient of four Emmy awards for reporting.

A dedicated community servant, John is the current board president of the YMCA of Roanoke Valley Corporate Board of Directors, immediate past president of the board of Saint Francis Service Dogs and a member of the Board of Directors for Junior Achievement of Southwestern Virginia.  He is a co-founder and board member for the Blue Ridge Marathon  and a member of the public relations committee for the Blue Ridge Land Conservancy.   John has served on numerous other boards and committees during his tenure in Roanoke.

In his spare time, John is an avid aquarium keeper, photographer, writer, runner, cyclist and soon-to-be scuba diver.  He lives in Cave Spring where he and his wife Mary have raised three sons.

    Management here at WSLS-10 graciously reserved hotel rooms for staff members who might not be able to get home during the recent snowstorm. That turned out to be a lot of people. But not me. I'm snow macho.

Since this turned out to be the third highest snow accumulation since the National Weather Service started keeping records, that turned out to be a lot of people.
