Girls Rock Roanoke summer camp has taken over The Jefferson Center this week thanks in part to the community.
The Jefferson Center has rented the music lab to the camp at a discount and people have given drum sets and keyboards to the cause.
The camp is all about helping young girls find a positive and empowering voice from within.
"The people that have come out to support this project it has really touched me in a way that I didn't expect and when I walk down the halls and I sort of listen in I'm just amazed with what's going on. I feel like there's some kind of magic going on inside the room and listening to them making music and I mean many of these girls have played these instruments for a few minutes this morning," said LeeRay Costa, Founder of Girls Rock Roanoke.
"It was awesome and I'm really excited for tomorrow and I'm going wake up extra early," said camper Megan Smith.
Some campers have come from as far as Cleveland even Florida to take part in Girls Rock Roanoke.
