Clothing drive to help Virginia Tech students dress for success

Posted: Updated:

A new service to help Virginia Tech students dress the part as they look for work. Virginia Tech Career Services' first clothing drive is underway.

It's a new service program called VT Career Outfitters in which organizers are collecting donated business attire, new or gently used, to make available to students before campus career fairs. They're doing it to make sure students don't have to miss out on networking opportunities or interviews because they don't have appropriate clothes to wear.

"We worked with a senior merchandising class and they did some more research for us and based on their surveys they found out that more than half of students don't have a suit with them on campus," said Career Service's Johanna Smith. "The cost of a good quality suit might be a bit much for them."

You can drop off donations at Smith Career Center or Johnston Student Center Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. through August 1st.
