The Roanoke Fire-EMS Department answered 21 swift water rescue calls in two hours, according to department spokesperson Tiffany Bradbury.

The Roanoke City E-911 Center was in full crisis mode earlier this afternoon.

E-911 director Mike Crockett said he had 15 dispatchers answering calls during the height of the flash flooding, double his usual staff for that time of the afternoon (5 PM).

Members of Roanoke Fire-EMS, the Roanoke Police Department, the city's emergency management director, and a representative from the city streets department all worked together to get resources where they needed to be.

The E-911 Center was in crisis mode for over two hours.
