ROANOKE, VA -

Flood waters surrounded cars at Valley View Mall after heavy rains.

General Manger Louise Dudley has been with the mall since 1996 and said this was the worst flooding she had seen. Dudley said water started coming in from the District Parking lot where Barnes & Noble and JCPenney's is flooding the maintenance shop but quick crews were able to prevent damage.

At least three cars were flooded on the other side of the mall at the Buffalo Wild Wings/Old Navy entrance.  Eyewitnesses tell us an elderly man and a woman were stuck in a gold car and a woman and her kids were stuck in a white car. Everyone got out without injuries according to witnesses.

"I stopped pulled over to the side and took some pictures because I've never seen this much water out here at Valley View so I'm just as shocked as anybody else would be," said Jetta Calloway who was one of the many who stopped. "I almost ran into the street into the water until my daughter said mom there's a lot of water don't go that way."

"You know what to think it was scary the water just started coming up on the tires and I was wondering how far was going to get" said Trish Orange, a driver who was at Valley View Mall.

Some roads were shut down around Valley View Mall because chucks of concrete were found when the water cleared. They wanted to make sure the road was safe before letting anyone pass through.

Less than two miles away, the same scene.  Pictures show the Advance Auto Parts parking lot flooded at Crossroads and from inside people watched the water rise from the windows before going to check for damage when the parking lot cleared.
