Roanoke City road closures and concerns

Posted: Updated:
ROANOKE, VA -

The majority of roads that were closed yesterday and overnight because of flash flooding have been reopened, however there are several smaller minor roads that police are still concerned about.

Here are a few streets Roanoke City Police say are still impaired as result of Wednesday's storm.

Eastbound Orange Avenue near 5th Street-only one lane open, due to a tree that is down

The Wise Avenue bridge between Roanoke and Vinton is closed due to debris

Williamson Road at the Wells Avenue/Kimball Avenue intersection is now open, but the traffic signals are not operational. A four-way stop is in effect. The intersection is muddy and has debris from the storm. Citizens are encouraged to avoid the intersection if possible, and to exercise caution if they must go through this intersection.

There is a tree down in 4300 block of Tyree Road, NW. Use caution when driving through this area.

Huntington Blvd. NE between Bohon Street and Oliver Road is closed.

Appletown Avenue at Fairhope Avenue is closed due a sinkhole.

Police are also reminding drivers that when they approach an intersection where the stop lights don't have power and are flashing, to treat those as they would a stop sign. That means stopping and checking for any other traffic before proceeding through, regardless of whether you have a yellow or red flashing light.

We will continue to update these road closures and concerns as they come into our newsroom.
