GREENVILLE, N.C. -

Police are investigating the shooting death of Quastepheon Hardison of Robersonville while the suspect in the case turned himself in Sunday.

Greenville Police received a call about a shooting  just before 2:30a.m. Saturday.  Police say they were called to the intersection of Ridge Place and Cortland Road.

One man, who didn't want to be identified, describes hearing the shooting.

"I was already in the bed. Had to been around 2:30 in morning because I just got up to use the restroom. Pop, Pop, Pop that's all I heard," said the man.

When Police arrived at the intersection, they found the body of 20-year-old Quastepheon Hardison in the street. Police say Hardison had been shot at least one time in the chest. The victim was transported to Vidant Medical Center where he died.

Richard Hardy who lives near where the shooting happened, says crime has gotten worst in recent years.

" I fear for anyone that's out here and they have a drive-by," said Hardy.

Police identified the suspect as 17-year-old Deon Demetrius Daniels of Greenville.  Daniels turned himself in Sunday.

Police believe the shooting is gang related but the investigation is still ongoing.

Greenville Police Chief Hassan Aden addressed the media in a press conference on Sunday evening. Aden says the department has changed the way it approaches violent crimes. Aden says police will dispatch all available resources both locally and nationally when someone commits a violent crime. In the last few weeks, Aden says the police department has come up with a list of the top 25 most violent offenders, and they are taking a very tactically approach to getting them off the streets.

"Our list is actually up to 75. But we're reducing it to our most volatile offenders. We will be organizing our resources to absolutely let it be know, that hey are not welcome in the city," said Aden.

Daniels is being held at the Pitt County Detention. No bond has been set.
