Dozens of families headed to Mill Mountain Park Saturday for free family entertainment.
Its all part of a new initiative by the city of Roanoke called Parks and the Arts.
The event gave families an opportunity to listen to a variety of music including the Wright Kids, Rob Smith and the Roanoke City Brass.
Kids also enjoyed the parks playground and free face painting.
They hope this will encourage community bonding and spark interest in local arts and parks.
"It is a great collaboration between Roanoke Arts Commission and the City Parks Association. We have lots of family friendly events, music, face painting, a bouncy house all kinds of musicians and artists and everything is free for the family so bring a picnic, come and enjoy it. spend the day or just an hour whatever works best," said Jeanne Fishwick a volunteer.
The next Parks and the Art event is next Saturday at Eureka Park from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. Admission is free.
