Several car windows busted in Washington County

Posted: Updated:
JOHNSON CITY, TN (WJHL) -

Adam Graybeal is one of several people who woke up Friday morning to find his back car window busted.

"Pretty sad that you know this stuff happens and then come to find out it wasn't just an isolated incident," said Graybeal.

Graybeal lives off Furnace Street and four other cars off Woodland Road in Johnson City, and another in Jonesborough were also hit.

"They tend to be in one area one night and then they'll either stop after that or they'll be in another area a night or two later," said Washington County Deputy Lt. Gary Wiseman.

Deputies said the believe the suspects are shooting at cars near the street with a B.B. gun.

"Considering this area right here is usually one of the safest you know rurally areas that I can think of in Johnson City it makes me feel really uneasy."

Investigators said these criminals are picking these areas specifically. Lt. Wiseman said, "they do it early morning hours, late at night, early morning and they're picking an area pretty quickly, and then they're gone."

Though they might be gone, Graybeal said he's still preparing himself so he doesn't become a victim twice. "Figure out the cheapest way to get this fixed and try and figure out the best way from happening again," said Graybeal.

Graybeal said that he hopes the suspects do more than just pay for the damage. "Outside from them paying for it, maybe for them to understand the hardship they're putting on other people."

If caught, these suspects will be charged with vandalism.

Investigators suggest if you can, try and park as far away from the street as possible, have your car in a well lit area and ask you neighbors to be vigilant.

If you have been a victim of a similar crime, and have yet to contact police, call the Washington County, Tennessee Sheriff's Office at 423.788.1414.
