Posted: Updated:
ROANOKE COUNTY, VA -

10:20am

Bill Long Jr's mugshot has been released.  He's currently being held at the Roanoke County Jail on charges of felony abduction and brandishing a firearm.  Roanoke County Police Chief Howard Hall says he could face additional charges pending the outcome of the investigation.

1:30 a.m.

The Roanoke County Police Chief says Bill Long Jr. is charged with felony abduction and brandishing a firearm. Just after 12:45 p.m., a call came in from a male, an acquaintance of Long Jr., who claimed he had been held against his will by the suspect for several hours in the house in the 200 block of Orlando Avenue. The 911 caller said another person was in the house being held hostage at the time. Police say that other person was Long Jr.'s wife. She was able to get out of the house shortly after police arrived. The caller described multiple weapons at the location. Police have obtained search warrants for the house, and are searching it overnight as part of the investigation.

After first responders arrived, the Roanoke SWAT team set up a perimeter around the house. They made contact with the suspect and tried to negotiate with him for several hours. He broke off communication and authorities did not hear from him for awhile. Around 10 p.m., they forced entry into the front of the house and threw gas grenades. Around 12:30 a.m. The suspect peacefully surrendered and came out of the house. Additional charges are pending. Multiple agencies responded including the Roanoke Police Department, the Roanoke County Sheriff's SWAT team, and Roanoke County Fire and Rescue. No gun fire was exchanged and no one was hurt. The suspect was treated on the scene for the tear gas, and is now in jail.

Katie Love is still on the scene of the standoff. She said police just told the suspect to think of his wife and come on out, and the sooner he comes out the sooner he can get on with his life without police in it. We'll keep you posted as she sends more info back into the newsroom.
