Salvation Army back to school shopping

ROANOKE, VA -

Kids across our area say they've been excited for a while for a big shopping trip this morning. A shopping trip set up through the Salvation Army that's giving 15 local kids the chance to prepare for back to school a little early.

"These are children who normally don't have the privilege of having even a lot of new basic clothes, so we're helping them with clothes and school supplies," says Salvation Army executive director of development, Suzanne Gandy.

This trip is all possible because of a collaboration between Target and the Salvation Army. Target has given each child an $80 gift card to spend on whatever they need for back to school supplies and clothes.

"This means they get to choose things that they like and will make their school day better," says Amy Argot. "So when they open their notebook, write with their pencils or carry their bookbag that they've picked out, they will remember Target and the Salvation Army made this available for them."
