Lynchburg Chamber of Commerce warns of e-mail scam

LYNCHBURG, VA -

Lynchburg Chamber of Commerce news release

An email scam is making the rounds to our Chamber members with the subject line disguised as "Lynchburg Regional Chamber of Commerce, Top Employers."

The company, Show Mark Media, is soliciting businesses to purchase a plaque.

The wording in the email states:

Your TOP EMPLOYERS Recognition Preview is now available.

As Published In: LYNCHBURG REGIONAL CHAMBER OF COMMERCE, July 2013.

To order by clicking a link to view your custom web page or enter by going to a URL.

Your Preview Code is: KS05T8LU

The plaque is $159 plus S/H.

Please be aware that this is NOT coming from anyone associated with the Lynchburg Regional Chamber. You should hit "delete" if you receive the email.

The Chamber lists its Major Employers on its website for the purpose of employment only. This list provides job seekers the ability to view jobs postings on the Chamber member websites. Lynchburg MSA is consistently ranked in Forbes as one of the top Places for Business and Careers and the Chamber provides business resources on its website for that purpose.

The Chamber has contacted Show Mark Media to end this charade and the Chamber has also contacted our local Better Business Bureau. The Bureau will be sending out a press release within 24 hours and will include steps you can take as a business to avoid becoming a victim. We appreciate your attention to this matter.
