Comeback Story Headlines NASCAR Teardown

Posted: Updated:

He's been battling for two seasons to get a full time ride in Nascar's Sprint Cup Series. Not because of a lack of talent-- blood clots and subsequent heart surgery kept Brian Vickers on the sidelines..and on the outside--looking in.  Vickers chronicled his travails from up and coming driver, to his illness, then his comeback and not having a job--all the way to Sunday night..when he put the MWR car into victory lane.

Jeff Burton discussed the final green-white checkered finish, explaining that he was behind Vickers on the outside and might have had a chance to win had Vickers not spun his tires on the restart. He says he pushed the 55 car down the front stretch and had no chance to carry the usual momentum that the outside line gets.

After the improbable win the only movement in the point standings occurs at the bottom of the top ten. Jimmie Johnson still leads Clint Bowyer by 56 points this week.  The big moves included Brad Keselowski up four spots to 9th and Kasey Kahne up two spots to 10th. Martin Truex Jr and Tony Stewart are the wild card entries as the standings sit after New Hampshire.
