Emmy Lane Foundation helps local families who lose loved ones

BOTETOURT COUNTY -

A local foundation has been able to help multiple families in our area.

The Emmy Lane Foundation is named after Emerson Cecil. She died just seven hours after birth from a rare condition that caused her to have an extra copy of the number 18 chromosome.

Her family wanted her memory to live on. They've raised more than $17,000 to help more than ten local families who need grave markers for their children.

"I think they're just relieved that there's some support out there to help. We've helped families that haven't been able to put a marker on their grave for some cases seven or eight years," said Matt Cecil, Emerson's father.

You have a chance to help out. The next golf tournament fundraiser is August 2nd at Ashley Plantation. You can get the "early bird discount" through Sunday. 50 teams can register. You can visit the Emmy Lane Foundation website or facebook page to register.

They say this tournament offers some unique contests like winning an Acura car with a hole in one or $50,000 in a putting challenge.

They are thankful for the support they've received from the business community including Allstate, Duncan Acura and Aarons Rentals.
