WNCN announced Friday that Chris Wilbur has been selected as the new General Sales Manager. He joins the station with 15 years of broadcast television sales experience and seven of those in sales management with WSPA in Spartanburg, S.C.
Wilbur has a reputation for leadership within Media General, the parent company of WNCN and WSPA, and was recently selected by upper management as a member of the corporation's innovation committee.
He fills the position following Steve Blanchard's promotion to Vice President of Sales at WFLA in Tampa, Fla.
"We are very excited to bring Chris onto the team," said WNCN Vice President and General Manager Doug Hamilton. "He is a proven leader with a consistent track record of success. We certainly welcome Chris and his family to Raleigh and we look forward to continuing our momentum here at the station."
Wilbur begins Aug. 12 as WNCN, an NBC affiliate, prepares for another strong upcoming season. WNCN returns America's No. 1 television program in "NFL Sunday Night Football," America's No. 1 reality television show and singing competition in "The Voice" and also welcomes Michael J. Fox back to television in a powerful family comedy that addresses Fox's battle with Parkinson's Disease.
WNCN News is the local 2013 Edward R. Murrow Award winner for "Best Newscast" and WNCN.com is seeing record traffic totals. WNCN will be home to the 2014 Sochi Winter Olympics and the 2014 U.S. Open to be played in Pinehurst, N.C.
