First Lady Michelle Obama will deliver the keynote address today at the National Council of La Raza in New Orleans, a Latino advocacy group. Mrs. Obama will talk about childhood obesity.

The Louisville Cardinals basketball team will head to the White House today where President Barack Obama will congratulate them on their National Championship. It's the Cardinals third visit to the White House after two title wins in the 80s.

U.S. Army Corps of Engineers will conduct a pulse release from the Gathright Dam on the Jackson River in Bath County starting at 6:00 this morning. It's expected to raise the water level downstream in the Jackson River by up to five feet in some sections, and up to three feet in the upper James River, but will remain several feet below flood stage.

Roanoke County Senior living community Emeritus at Cave Spring will have a Cookout for a Cause this afternoon from 11:30 a.m.to 2:00 p.m. $6 will get you lunch to raise money for the Alzheimer's Association.

Roanoke Fire-EMS will hold it's promotion ceremony this afternoon at 4:00 p.m.. A new deputy chief will be named to succeed Chief Ralph Tartaglia as well as battalion chiefs, captains and lieutenants from council chambers.

The Star City Striders Running Club is having a fun run/walk and program tonight at 7:00 p.m., ahead of the actual run to benefit the Children's Trust in October. Today's activities will take place at Woodmen of the World in Roanoke.
