Edgecombe County man enlists trooper's help to propose

TARBORO, N.C. -

A state trooper helped an Edgecombe County man propose to his girlfriend last Friday night.

Dillon Parker proposed to Courtney Mitchell in Tarboro after the pair were pulled over by a state trooper on Highway 33.

The trooper, a family friend of Parker's, pulled Mitchell, citing a report that a red Mustang had run another car off the road. But that was just the setup to ask Parker to step out of the vehicle and assume the position so he could propose to his girlfriend on bended knee.

Family members said the surprise proposal and video shows there's still love and happiness in the world. It also shows the kindness of the NC Highway Patrol trooper.

A nice firm handshake has long been a mark of good manners and elevated social skills, but it's also a very germy way to greet your fellow humans.
