FLOYD COUNTY -

The big event of the summer along the Blue Ridge Parkway is set to start on Thursday.  FloydFest 12 has already sold out, and is expected to draw tens of thousands of people to our area.

"They're willing to drive here, hike here, fly here and boat here," says the festival's creative director, Kris Hodges. "People have really recognized FloydFest as a unique travel destination."

With the festival right around the corner, we got some advice on what you need to know as you plan your weekend.

"Coming to FloydFest for the first time, I would definitely recommend researching our web site," says festival director, Erika Johnson.

Johnson says once there, you can find everything you need to know about what is and isn't allowed at this year's event.

Next, she says think twice about how much gear you're going to bring.

"Pack light, we do have a gear assistance shuttle program. We'll bring your gear in, but nonetheless travel light," says Johnson.

When it comes to parking, there are several different lots you may be assigned to, depending on which kind of ticket you've bought. Regardless of where you park, there will be busses bringing people onto the festival grounds.

"Be prepared to have an amazing time. Open your mind to a wealth of new experiences and music," says Johnson.

An experience that will have people from all over the country visiting our area this weekend.

We're just one day away from the gates of FloydFest 2013 being officially open to the public. Event organizers say its a festival that seems to bring people from all over our area and across the country back year after year.

This year some big names will be taking the stage, including The Lumineers, Citizen Cope, and Old Crow Medicine Show.

FloydFest runs through Sunday, with gates opening on Thursday for the general public, and a special VIP preview and sound check Wednesday at noon.
