ROANOKE, VA -

The Virginia State Police are continuing their investigation into a traffic pursuit that resulted from a traffic stop by a Virginia State trooper shortly before 11:00 Saturday night.

The trooper was assigned to the Roanoke City Police and Virginia State Police partnership and had a Roanoke City police officer riding with him when they attempted to initiate a traffic stop on a white Chevrolet Equinox on Peters Creek Road at Interstate 581.

As the officers exited their vehicle the driver of the SUV drove off and got on I-581 south and later exited the interstate at the downtown exit near the Hotel Roanoke.

The officers lost the vehicle briefly and several minutes later several 911 calls were received by the Roanoke City 911 dispatch center that a white SUV had crashed at 14th Street and Salem Ave SW.

The driver and passenger fled the vehicle on foot and a Roanoke City Police K-9 was called to assist in attempting to locate the suspects.
