Sunday, 3:25 p.m.

Pocahontas County officials are warning residents about two prisoners who escaped this morning from a West Virginia correctional facility.

At approximately 4:00 a.m., officials at Denmar Correctional Facility in Hillsboro notified Pocahontas County officials about two escaped prisoners from their facility.

Prisoners are pictured and described as follows:

Thomas Pennington: 5'11", 190 lbs, white male, brown hair, blue eyes (serving a sentence for Murder and Sexual Assault according to our NBC affiliate WVVA)

Larry Morehead: 5'8", 225 lbs, white male, strawberry blonde hair (serving a sentence for sexual assault according to our NBC affiliate WVVA)

Pocahontas County Prosecuter Eugene Simmons says it looks like the two may have escaped over the fence.

"It's the only thing that would have been a possibility," said Simmons.

Simmons said 25-30 people have been going door to door searching for the men. K9 units have also been involved in the search but Simmons said the dogs couldn't pick up a scent and it rained overnight.

Residents are urged to keep your property locked and secured, and to avoid engaging any suspicious persons.

Simmons says both men were not from the area and they had been "recently transferred" to Denmar.

If you notice any suspicious people or activity, please call 911 immediately.
