SPRING LAKE, N.C. -

A Spring Lake man died Saturday after troopers say he ran head-on with an on-coming SUV.

Brian Feldmann, 48, Spring Lake, was driving on Ray Road in Harnett County when he crossed the center line and ran head-on with an SUV.

Feldmann was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the SUV, Burton Thompson Jr., 40, and his 10-year-old son were transported to Cape Fear Valley Medical Center. Thomas had broken leg and other fractures, his son had a broken leg and bruises.

North Carolina Highway Patrol says Feldmann was not wearing a seat belt and was traveling about 45 miles per hour at impact.

Investigators suspect Feldmann may have been drinking and fell asleep or passed out.

Both Thompson and his sone were wearing seat belts Thompson had slowed to about 5 miles per hour and pulled off the side of the road when he was hit.
