World record scuba dive attempt enters third day

SULLIVAN COUNTY, TN (WJHL) -

An attempt by a local scuba diver to set a new world record for the longest continuous dive, is entering its third day at South Holston Lake.

Jerry Hall is 15 feet under the water at Lake View Boat Dock, where he hopes to remain until around noon on Thursday.

Hall has a television, a stationary bike, and music to occupy his time.

Several of you have asked us via Facebook and Twitter how Hall is eating while underwater.

He says its all a matter of taking it one bite at a time.

According to Hall, "Actually it's pretty simple. We have just a normal regulator, not like the full face I am wearing right now; and I take a breath of air, take the regulator out, slide my food in and chew it up. I am eating small bite-size pieces of food."

Air is another big concern for hall and his support team.

He used 500 lbs of air pressure, just doing a short interview with News Channel 11's Chris McIntosh Monday morning.

Hall took the plunge at 12:10 pm Friday. His goal is to spend at least 120 hours and 15 minutes underwater. That would allow him to reclaim the world record currently held by a diver in Florida.

But he doesn't plan to stop there. He hopes to spend another 24 hours below the surface to secure the title before emerging from the murky water Friday, August 2nd around noon.
