Goodwill expects bump from sales tax holiday

ROANOKE -

Virginia's sales tax holiday is only a few days away, but local businesses are already ramping up.

Goodwill Industries of the Roanoke Valley is stocking clothes to get ready for back to school shoppers.

They expect a boost in business this weekend, since the sales tax holiday applies to both school supplies and clothes.

It may seem like an odd fit because most of Goodwill's clothing is already heavily discounted.

But for many shoppers every penny counts.

"People think about spending and they think about back to school," said Kelly Coleman with Goodwill. "So for us it's a great time people to come in and shop and take advantage of that and the everyday low prices at Goodwill every day. We see lots of folks coming in just trying to save those few cents that tax usually adds on their ticket."

The Virginia sales tax holiday begins Friday and runs through the weekend.
