New Rocky Mount performance center searches for music talent at FloydFest

Posted: Updated:

You may not have to wait for next year's FloydFest to hear different bands play music.

Construction is under way for the new Harvester Performance Center in Rocky Mount and general manager, Gary Jackson, swept through Floyd Fest looking for talent to fill the line-up.

The new music venue is set to open in March 2014 and plans to have shows starting at the end of April into early May.

Rocky Mount Assistant Town Manager, Matt Hankins, says all types of music will fill the 16,000 square foot historic space. The plan is to have a show every other night.

The town bought the old Lynch Hardware building in November 2011 and spent 2012 designing and planning how they would fund the $2.5 million project.

The renovations started in June and Haskins says the space will accommodate more than the 400 they originally planned. He says up to 500 people can come see a show, with 700-750 people in a standing room only.

Hankins says this is a great way to restructure the Rocky Mount economy and build a solid foundation for more people to pour into the area.
