Martinsville police chief works last day

Posted: Updated:
MARTINSVILLE, VA -

Martinsville Police Chief Mike Rogers will return to the department for work for the final time today. It's his last day before retirement officially begins. Rogers has been with the department for 30 years.

As WSLS reported earlier this month, Captain G. Edward Cassady has been named the new Interim Police Chief of the City. Cassady has been a member of the Martinsville Police Department since October 1985. Along with his appointment, the city will also be reviewing the police and sheriff's departments to determine if there are areas where operations can be consolidated.

The review is expected to take six to eight weeks.
