Amherst County deputies arrest two in cocaine bust

A joint investigation led to the arrest of a man and woman on cocaine charges in Amherst County on Wednesday, July 31st.

The Amherst County Sheriff's Office says 12 ounces of cocaine were delivered Wednesday evening, following several undercover purchases.

A team of investigators from Amherst County, Durham, North Carolina, Lynchburg, and the Halifax County Sheriff's Office tracked 38-year-old Alphonso Roman Sanchez, of Durham, N.C. and Mexico, and 37-year-old Marsha Jo Herrera, of Nathalie, Virginia, as the van the were in drove from Durham to Madison Heights to deliver the drugs.

Officers say when they arrested the pair, both had multiple forms of fake ID's.

Sanchez faces the following charges:

  • Distribution of cocaine (3 counts)
  • Possession with the intent to distribute cocaine
  • Distribution of cocaine within 1,000 feet of a school
  • Conspiracy to distribute cocaine
  • Transporting controlled substances into the Commonwealth

Herrera faces charges of:

  • Distribution of cocaine
  • Distribution of cocaine within 1,000 feet of a school
  • Conspiracy to distribute cocaine

Both suspects are being heled at the Blue Ridge Regional Jail without bond.
