Health centers begin outreach for Affordable Care Act

ROANOKE, VA -

We're tracking your tax dollars when it comes to the Affordable Care Act. 2.5 million dollars sent to the Commonwealth as part of the government funding is being spent right now.

New Horizons Healthcare in Roanoke received a little more than $87,000. The latest funding is geared toward outreach and enrollment. New Horizons has used part of the money to hire one new employee so far and will hire a second. The two will go out into the community to make sure Virginians know they'll be required to have insurance starting next year and to help them enroll. "There are a lot of people out there who are not being served by any single primary care home," explained New Horizons' CEO Eileen Lepro. "That's what we expect will happen not just to us but to other health care providers in Roanoke."

New Horizons healthcare, formerly known as Kuumba Wellness Center, used previous money aimed at capital development through the Affordable Care Act to pay for construction of it's new building.
