The Amherst County Sheriff's Office has won a national safety award. Below is the press release the sheriff's office sent:
The Amherst County Sheriff's Office is pleased to announce the receipt of the 2012 National Association Chiefs of Police Law Enforcement Challenge Award.
The Sheriff's Office received notice from the Association that it has won the 1st place award for the category of departments with 26 to 50 officers.
The National Law Enforcement Challenge (NLEC) is a national traffic safety awards program administered by the National Association of Chiefs of Police that recognizes excellent law enforcement traffic safety programs.
The program provides law enforcement agencies with an opportunity to make a difference in the communities they serve and allows agencies to learn from one another and establish future goals in traffic safety enforcement and education
The Sheriff's Office was previously awarded Second Place in the 2010 – 2011 National Challenge for office with 51 – 100 officers (we had jail staff that accounted for the additional staff members then)
