Bluegrass band to hold fundraiser at Vinton Farmer's Market for member with cancer

Posted: Updated:

Bluegrass music is part of the soul of Southwest Virginia, so when a well-known local band found out one of its own was battling cancer, while also having to work full-time and care for her grandson, they came up with a plan to help.

The Wildfire Band is a seven member band, which includes Sandy Via, who's battling lung cancer.

On Saturday, bluegrass music will fill the air at the Vinton's Farmers Market all to raise money for Sandy's medical bills.

"Sandy deserves this because she is a young woman, who is working so hard in life and like most of us she doesn't have thousands of dollars in her account to just hand to hospitals for co-pays," said an organizer, Margo Brake.

"It's just amazing and people have just out poured, so it's still living proof that there are good people in this world, so I think it's a wonderful thing," explained Steve Shively, band leader.

If you'd like to attend the concert is this Saturday starting at 6 p.m. at the Vinton Farmer's Market.
