Roanoke County first responder using vacation to provide medical care in Brazil

Posted: Updated:

A Roanoke County fire fighter and paramedic is using his vacation to making a difference in Brazil.

After growing up in Brazil Mike Haubner is heading back to the mission fields to provide medical care to villages along the Amazon.

He says caring for others is all he's ever known and whether that's in Roanoke County or Brazil it doesn't matter to him.

"It kind of blends in with what I kind of grew up knowing and what my parents taught me, so being in this profession is the best thing ever, because I can help people every day," Haubner explained.

Mike says his fellow first responders often times switch their vacation times to allow him to go on mission trips.
