Woman found dead in motel room, Police say a '"suspicious death'"

The Amherst County Sheriff's office is investigating what they're calling a suspicious death after a woman's body was discovered in a motel room at the Executive Inn.

Police got a 911 call from the motel manager Friday morning around 11:30 after they discovered a woman in one of their motel rooms. The manager had first checked the room after employees noticed the guests had not check out.

Police have not identified who the woman is, but believe she is from central Virginia. She was found with multiple wounds but police have not determined what the wounds are from.

No weapons, drugs or alcohol were found in the room.

The motel manager says that the room was reserved by a man, not the woman found dead.

The room the woman was found in is on the back side of the Executive Inn. Heavy police presence remained on scene throughout the day.

Sheriff Jimmy Ayers says investigators are still processing the scene and looking for leads.

Most of the motel has been roped off with crime scene tape. The other guests in the Executive Inn have been moved to a separate part of the motel.

Ayers says that he believes there is no threat to the community although they are searching for the other occupant.

"It appears to be an isolated innocent. If anyone may have been here at this motel or in the area yesterday or early this morning that may have seen anything out of the ordinary please give the Sheriff's Department a call," Ayers said.

Police say they are still in the early stages of the investigation but WSLS will continue to keep you updated as the investigation unfolds.
