Blacksburg, VA - Steppin' Out draws close to 35,000 people every year.
Some people were deterred by the rain last year, but this year's weather has been great and local businesses are seeing the difference.
Lauren Blakemore, who helps organize the event, says that Friday is normally a little slow because people are at work. This year was a different story. "Sales went well yesterday, better than expected in many cases," says Blakemore.
One local restaurant, Gillie's, experiences a boost in business during this weekend every year.
General manager, Dylan Parson, has worked through seven Steppin' Out weekends. He says sales at the restaurant are about double what they see in a regular weekend. Parsons says the restaurant, like many other local businesses, saw a hike in sales yesterday.
"We are doing really good. Especially yesterday after we got the books together and everything, it turned out really, really profitable for us," says Parson.
Parson says that the extra money raised from this weekend will be used to purchase furniture for the restaurant's new outdoor seating section.
