A 2-year old was shot in Danville Sunday afternoon.

Police say just before 3 p.m. police responded to the 700 block of Glendale Avenue in reference to a shots fired call. 

Upon arriving at the scene, it was discovered that a 2 year old child had been shot and was being transported to the Danville Regional Medical Center by private vehicle.

The child was initially treated at the Danville Regional Medical Center for a gunshot wound to the back and was listed as in guarded/serious condition.  The child was air lifted by helicopter to Roanoke for further treatment.         

The police department is in the preliminary stages of this investigation and as more information becomes available, it will be released.
