Roanoke Co. announces new company, 96 jobs

A global manufacturer that makes containers for the food and beverage industry is bringing a multi-million dollar facility.

The Ardagh Group, a Luxembourg-based global leader in metal and glass packaging, bought a 525,000 square foot distribution center on Hollins Road.

That property used to belong to Hanover Direct, and has been one of the largest vacant buildings in the state.

It's the largest manufacturing investment in Roanoke County's history.

The company hopes to bring 96 new jobs, and will invest over $93 million dollars in real estate and equipment.

Virginia competed against Kentucky, North Carolina, Maryland, West Virginia, Pennsylvania, and Tennessee for the project.

CEO of Ardagh Group, James Willich, says all of the effort but forth by Roanoke County to accommodate the company made the choice easy. He says Ardagh Group created a list of challenges when they first came to the area and local advocates quickly addressed each issue. After finding solutions to those challenges, Willich says, "Roanoke appeared as the only place for us."
